Desktop Discone

Has anyone ever used or tried a Desktop Discone antenna? I've had a discone on the roof and will be getting another soon, but surely this is about as much use as the rubber duck that comes with handheld scanners?

a bit gimmicky maybe - sort of a hybrid of a discone and nested dipole arrangement - doubt it would give much of an increase in reception ability over a 'duck' on a handheld - but you never know....

discone in roof/loft space is best bet, with a nice wideband log periodic on a rotator if space/money allows!!

Hate to ask a very noobish question, but doesn't a discone inside a roof space limit it's capabilities? I'm just assuming if it was on the roof outside it'd perform better, no?

Well yes, any aerial fitted outdoors will work better than if it was indoors. Get a double discone fitted outside as high as possible, you will not regret it.
